The Breath as a Foundation

By Saria Bartholomew — 3 weeks ago

In the quiet corners of our Bali sanctuary, we often speak of the breath not merely as a biological necessity, but as the scaffolding of mindful movement. In the rush of modern existence, we tend to breathe shallowly, restricting our vitality to the upper chest.

The Anatomy of Presence

Pilates teaches us that every movement begins from the core, and every core engagement begins with the breath. When we inhale deeply into the posterior ribs, we are creating space between the vertebrae.

Pilates is the complete coordination of body, mind, and spirit.

Consider the transition between movements. In the space between an inhale and an exhale, there is a momentary stillness where the center resides.
